For many years now, this has been a regular highlight in my calendar: the annual gathering of the jazz community at jazzahead! in Bremen. It always feels a bit like a class reunion, yet every year you meet new people as well. A diverse scene, connected by a shared love of music.
Even though the music business has its challenges, it is encouraging to see how many people continue to stand up for the same values and for the future of this art form. What remains especially fascinating is how broadly the term jazz is understood in Bremen. This openness has always shaped what jazz means to me.
Despite all the challenges, it gives me hope. Especially for the future of live music.
