Other Worlds

Some of my favorite musicians released their third record as a band called “Sound Prints” today. What started as a tribute to the great Wayne Shorter for his 80th birthday is now a perfect quintet for this music, composed by Dave Douglas and Joe Lovano and beautifully recorded after a week-long engagement at the renowned club Village Vanguard in New York City.

Wayne inspires us to think about our place in the universe, you can’t divorce that from the music.” — Dave Douglas

The cover was designed by the great illustrator (and trumpet player) Dave Chisholm, and I had the honor of helping put everything together for the final printed version.

“Sound Prints’ music may reference the classic free-collective innovations of Shorter, Ornette, and the mid-60s Miles quintet, but their audaciously sophisticated refinement of all that rich history makes them a truly contemporary jazz band.” — Jazzwise, Editor’s Choice
